Clock Repair

WHY DOES IT COST SO MUCH TO REPAIR MY CLOCK

Well, anything mechanical does wear out over time and a clock movement is no different.

Throughout the life of your clock its probably has been serviced or repaired many times.

Up until the 1950's or 60's clockmakers actually knew how to properly repair or service your clock

but guess what things have changed. Today for many it's a hobby for the tinker and novice alike.

These amateurs lack the skills and equipment necessary to properly rebuild or service a clock movement.

These feeble attempts only add to the time and materials needed to successfully put your clock back in working order.

Just a friendly word of advice. If your clock needs servicing take it to a qualified professional for a evaluation.

See our short youtube video below for just one of the many steps taken to rebuild a clock movement

SOME OF THE STEPS TAKEN DURING THE OVERHAUL PROCESS:

POLISH ALL PIVOTS

Pivot before polish

and

after polish

We use the ROLLIMAT pivot polish to polish all pivots. This piece of equipment is expensive to purchase but the results are spectacular giving a pivot a factory new surface. Without this process taking place any new bushings installed will wear out in a relatively short period of time. It's all about friction, creating less frictions with a perfectly round pivot in a new bronze bushing fitted to the pivot will run with much less power needed (friction) and last at least as long as the original and probably longer.

Many times the escape wheel has slightly bent teeth from years of hitting the verge. Without the teeth being straightened time keeping is less accurate and the pendulum swing is weak.

This step is over looked by the majority of clock repair persons because of the specialized tool needed to correct the problem of bent teeth. Not all escape wheels need this done but it's nice to know that we have the proper tools to handle this should it need it.
